Head of People Partnering

Work Type:

Location:

Sydney - NSW

  • Lead People Partnering across a lean medium-sized unionised workforce
  • North Sydney & Western Sydney | Hybrid (3 days onsite)
  • 2IC role
About Them
Our client is a commercially driven, fast-paced organisation operating within the transport and infrastructure sector. With around 500+ employees working across multiple locations, the business has a strong operational workforce, constructive union relationships, and a pipeline of organisational change underway.
Operating very differently from traditional government rail environments, the culture is agile, pragmatic, and commercially minded, with leaders who value high-quality partnering and practical HR guidance.

About the Role
Reporting to the Executive GMP&C, the Head of People Partnering leads a team responsible for all people partnering and workforce development activity across the organisation. This is a senior role, but in a lean structure meaning the business needs someone who is both strategic and very hands-on. You’ll work directly with executives, leaders, and frontline teams, managing the full span of HR and IR activity. You’ll play a key role in a period of significant organisational change, supporting operational model redesign, workforce structure changes, optimisation of roles, and the uplift of ways of working.
Critically, you will lead all core IR matters, including enterprise agreement implementation, negotiations, and maintaining constructive union relationships. The organisation values transparency and open engagement and you will be central to shaping that.

About You
This role is ideal for a senior HR leader who enjoys moving comfortably between big-picture strategy and hands-on delivery. You’re someone who thrives in a fast-paced, commercial environment and feels confident partnering across a complex, unionised workforce. You bring a well-rounded blend of HR and IR experience, used to building strong relationships with senior leaders, and you enjoy being visible and connected across different sites. You’ll also have experience supporting organisational change, shaping workforce structures, and improving ways of working. Strength in data, reporting, and HR systems will help you bring clarity and insights to decision-making. Most importantly, you’ll be someone who leads with empathy, champions initiatives like employee experience, diversity and inclusion, and early-career development, and is ready for a full-time role with plenty of variety, pace, and impact.
