HR Manager

Work Type:

Location:

Sydney - NSW

  • Successful mid sized Construction business
  • End to end HR Manager role | Circa $170,000 + super
  • Alexandria Location | Hybrid 4 Office / 1 WFH

About Them
Our client is a privately owned, mid-sized construction company with a strong presence across NSW and QLD. With a workforce of approximately 90 people they are currently delivering a major project in Sydney, with further growth opportunities being pursued interstate. Known for their practical, straight-talking culture and solid industry reputation, they continue to deliver high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

About the Role
This is a hands-on, standalone HR Manager role supporting both operational and strategic HR functions across the business. Reporting into the HR Director you will be responsible for managing the full employee lifecycle – including recruitment and onboarding, employee relations and industrial matters, performance management, training and development, and general HR support.

You will work closely with both blue- and white-collar teams, providing practical advice and ensuring HR processes are fit for purpose. With no formal HRIS in place, all records are managed manually, so strong attention to detail and comfort with Excel/SharePoint are essential. Payroll is managed separately, but you will handle related approvals and staff queries. Occasional travel to sites in  Wollongong and Queensland will be required.

About You
You are an experienced HR generalist who is comfortable operating autonomously in a dynamic, project-based environment. You bring sound experience across ER/IR and have ideally worked within a unionised setting under an Enterprise Agreement. While construction experience is an advantage, it’s not essential – more important is your ability to engage confidently with both site-based and corporate teams, and to work pragmatically across a broad range of HR matters.

You are adaptable, self-sufficient, and happy to ‘wear multiple hats’ – from writing job ads and issuing contracts, to advising on performance or supporting leadership with workforce planning. You enjoy building relationships and are confident navigating strong personalities in a candid and direct workplace.

About Culture and Benefits
The culture is fast-paced, pragmatic, and values people who are reliable, solutions-focused and down to earth. This is a great opportunity to take ownership of the HR function in a business that values practical HR support and is open to ongoing improvement.

The salary on offer is circa $170,000 + superannuation. Candidates slightly outside this range will also be considered.
