  • Payroll ownership with involvement in system and process enhancements
  • Homebush location | Onsite full time
  • $110,000-$120,000 + super
We are partnering with a values-driven organisation to recruit an experienced Payroll Officer to join their People & Culture team. Reporting to the Head of People & Culture, this role plays a critical part in ensuring the accurate, compliant and timely delivery of payroll, while also supporting remuneration processes and contributing to broader people initiatives.
This is a hands-on, detail-focused role suited to someone who enjoys owning end-to-end payroll and is comfortable working in a manual environment initially, with an exciting payroll system transition on the horizon.

About the role
You will be responsible for processing a fortnightly payroll for approximately 80 employees across a mix of EBA, Modern Award and award-free classifications. The current payroll system is MicroPay, with a planned transition to KeyPay via Employment Hero in the next 3–6 months. Beyond payroll, there is scope to support remuneration benchmarking, role evaluation and broader HR activities depending on your strengths and interests.

This role will be required to work onsite full-time, particularly through the system transition period.

Key responsibilities
  • End-to-end fortnightly payroll processing, including new starters, terminations and variations
  • Ensuring accuracy of timesheets, leave balances and payroll records
  • Payroll reporting, reconciliations and compliance activities (EOM, EOFY, STP, super and ATO)
  • Supporting payroll audits and maintaining compliance with Fair Work, NES, Awards and EBAs
  • Providing payroll data and insights to support remuneration reviews, benchmarking and role evaluation
  • Acting as the first point of contact for payroll-related queries
  • Supporting payroll system migration activities, including data validation and parallel runs
  • Contributing to broader People & Culture initiatives outside of payroll cycles, aligned to your skills and interests.

About you
  • Proven experience in a Payroll Officer or similar role within a mixed workforce environment
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, Modern Awards and EBAs
  • High attention to detail and a methodical, process-driven approach
  • Confidence working in manual payroll environments
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Experience supporting payroll system migrations (MicroPay to KeyPay highly regarded)
If you’re a payroll professional who takes pride in accuracy, enjoys improving processes, and is looking for a role with both ownership and variety, we’d love to hear from you.
